In Their Words:

Value-Based Company

Our business foundation is rooted in sustainable choices for everyone involved. We’ve considered each step in our manufacturing process and have minimized our eco-footprint right from the start.

In business since 2000, our eco-footprint is actually still shrinking. Why? We’re continually measuring and striving to make it smaller applying Permaculture principles to everything we do. “The proof is in the pudding,” they say. Well, here’s a top-level look at what’s in our pudding:

Sustainable Practices in Every Step

How we make our natural bedding is equally as important as what we make. Every aspect of how we do business, what we make and how we make it has gone through careful consideration and conscious choice-making.

  • Permaculture principles applied through every fabric of this company.
  • Raw materials sourced from credible & high-quality mills
  • Careful consideration of all vendors we work with
  • Pledged to use only natural, local materials
  • Commitment to manufacturing in the USA
  • Vigilant to our Zero Waste philosophy
  • Promise to our employees: creating an outstanding work environment

100% Zero Waste of Our Manufacturing By-Products:

We reuse, recycle, or compost ALL materials used in production. None of our raw materials ever go into a landfill. Scraps and policies include:

  • ReKindle Program: Up-cycling small pieces of fabric and wool into useful products. See all of our ReKindle Products.
  • Free Bin to give away or donate to schools for their creative projects.
  • Our tiniest fabric bits and threads are composted or mulched.
  • Plastic Free Plastic Packaging policy
  • Cradle to Grave Practices: We create bedding that does no harm. You may return your bedding to the earth by recycling or re-purposing it, doing no harm to the land, animals or people who live here.

The Highest Quality Natural Materials

We’re a small company that ONLY offers a line of natural bedding. (We’re NOT a big company that offers a line of green bedding.) We use only:

What We DON’T DO:

No counting sheep! For any of us … We need to be able to sleep at night, too! This means:

  • No synthetics
  • No conventionally grown cotton
  • No chemicals or fire retardants
  • No carbonization of wool
  • No bleaching of wool
  • No sheep dipping

Certifications & Testing

Green America - Gold Certified Business since 2007

Green America is a national, non-profit founded in 1982. (They went by the name "Co-op America" until 2009). America's Green Business Certification ensures companies operate according to a “values-based” social enterprise according to principles of social justice and environmental sustainability. In addition, certified businesses must be environmentally responsible in the way they run their operations and facilities, and in how they source raw materials, manufacture products, and market them. The Gold certification is completed by the Green America Standards Committee through an independent review.

Holy Lamb Organics holds the Gold Certification

We have exceeded the operation standards, in addition to the standards - specific to the textile industry - for sourcing raw materials, manufacturing, and marketing our goods.

IAOS

The IOAS is a non-profit certification organization dedicated to the integrity of eco-label claims in the field of organic and sustainable agriculture, environmental management, social justice, and fair trade.

They work internationally to assess the competence of organizations providing certification to "sustainability" standards, meaning producers can work in a fair environment and consumers can trust the products bearing these labels and the company's contribution to a more sustainable and fairer world.

IAOS's role is as an independent technical expert. It verifies the correct application of the standard and the requirements for certification.

All COTTON used at Holy Lamb Organics is IOAS certified.

Eco-Wool™

Eco Wool is produced to the highest standards on local American farms; some of these standards are beyond those specified for organic materials. Eco Wool is not certified organic. At this time very little organic wool is available on the market; almost no organic wool is grown in the United States.

We have access to organic wool from New Zealand that is pure and clean, though due to it being only one type of wool, it doesn’t offer the kind of resilience or bounce that our Premium Eco Wooldoes.  Our Eco Wool is a blend of about 7 different types of wool varying from fine to coarse in order to create the most ideal wool fiber for use in bedding.

Our WOOL is Premium Eco-Wool™.

All of the wool batting, as well as moisture barrier fabric and wool blanket fabric that we use in manufacturing, is tested for heavy metals through fiber sample analysis.

The official report indicates: "No toxic compounds were detected...Growers and ranchers raise sheep relative to organic standards (do not use herbicides, pesticides or growth hormones)."

Though not required by law, our mill has these materials tested anyways to provide you with the assurance as to the quality of our raw materials.

Element Materials Technology Tested

All materials at Holy Lamb Organics that have a "next to skin" use are run through a voluntary Phthalates test (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act CPSIA of 2008). This test is required by law and provides extra assurance as to the quality of our natural materials.

All of our toppers and mattresses are required to meet the cigarette burn test 1633. Our verification is printed on all of our sewn-in product labels: "This Product Complies with the Federal Flammability Standard 16 CFR part 1632".

Care Information

All washing instructions to keep your bedding clean and fresh are proprietary and specific to Holy Lamb Organics products. They have asked us not to post their instructions online. A copy will come with any purchase and we are also happy to discuss and or email them to you by request. Thank you!

Nope, you don’t need to wash your HLO bedding before you use it. And it is fine to wash it if that is your preference.  Follow the special washing instructions that come with the product(s).

Putting wool bedding in the dryer is not recommended. Lay them out in the sun to dry – it is the best option
