WorkingWonders Responsible Wood Sourcing Policy

WorkingWonders is committed to the responsible use of forest resources, including the wood used in our furniture. WorkingWonders therefore will work with our suppliers on an ongoing basis to eliminate wood from unacceptable sources and to progressively increase the amount of responsible wood – wood from certified and recycled/reclaimed sources – procured over time.

WorkingWonders is also firmly committed to avoiding wood from unacceptable sources, including:

  • –  Illegally harvested or traded timber

  • –  Timber harvested in violation of traditional or civil rights

  • – Timber harvested from areas in which high conservation values are threatened by poor forest management

     – Timber harvested from areas being converted from forests to plantations or non-forest use

  • –  Timber from forests in which genetically modified trees are planted

  • WorkingWonders recognizes the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as an important tool to promote responsible forest

management. We have a preference for sourcing FSC-certified wood furniture when it meets our and our customer's requirements.

  • Through this Policy, WorkingWonders seeks to set a positive example for our peers and to do our part to protect the world’s forests.

At the end of the day, WorkingWonders is one retailer and the challenge to switch to completely sustainable practices in this area is a formidable one.  But, even a small, service-oriented retailer can always find more ways to advocate for other retailers, large and small, to join in and formally adopt these policies and practices.  At present, more than 25% of wood furniture purchased or sold is reclaimed/recycled, certified under any certification system and/or acceptable plantation wood.

In addition, to further our goal of making it easier for people to identify sustainably-produced furniture, WorkingWonders looks to add at least one notable sustainable furniture brand to our offerings on an annual basis.  In 2021, Cisco Home has joined the other green furniture brands we sell.  They are a perfect fit.

Cisco's Mission Statement:

For three decades, Cisco Home has been a Los Angeles-based haven for handcrafted ingenuity. Driven by our passion for elegant design, thoughtful sustainability, and community building, our family of designers, makers, and activists work side-by-side to create one-of-a-kind, eco-friendly pieces that transform your house into a home with your health in mind.

Cisco Home Furniture has beautiful options in a number of traditional, contemporary, and modern styles.

Contact us directly at help@workingwonders.com so we can help you find the perfect choices for your home.

WorkingWonders truly looks forward to a time where the Chain of Custody(COC) for wood is completely transparent and reliable, perhaps utilizing the accountability that new technologies like Blockchain afford.

For now, we do our best to vet makers by asking the hard questions and following up on information provided to the best of our ability to let consumers know (up front) with our green icon system what makes a product environmentally and socially better.  We welcome any additional sustainability-related questions that you, our customers, may have – and promise to provide you with answers that equal the same level of transparancy we have attained for WorkingWonders.
